How do I start a face-to-face game?

Choose Face to face on the Play screen, pick a time control and, if you like, a fair play preset. Lay the device flat between you, and Player 1 picks one of the two paper hands to draw colors.

How do I use Duo Chess with a real board?

Open the Tools tab and tap Start a game on a board. After the color draw, a split-screen clock appears: tap your half after each move, and your half asks for the move you just played. The clock, color draw, scoresheet and position editor also open on their own.

Why can't I move my opponent's pieces?

Only the player whose turn it is can move pieces. Touches on the other side's pieces are ignored on purpose, so a stray hand never changes the game.

How does undo work in a face-to-face game?

Undo is a request. It appears on your opponent's side and pauses both clocks. They can accept or decline; if they don't answer within 10 seconds, it's declined.

Why didn't my touch register near the edge of the screen?

A thin strip along the edges ignores touches, and so do large contacts like a resting palm. That's what keeps the board safe when two people lean over it. Touch a little further in.

How do I resign?

Press and hold Resign on your own panel until it fills. A quick tap does nothing.

What happens if I fold my iPhone Duo during a game?

In a face-to-face game, both clocks pause immediately. The cover screen lets you continue there as pass and play, or end the game. Unfold to resume face to face. Solo games simply continue in the larger layout.

Where are my games saved?

Every finished game is saved automatically on your device. Open Games to see them, filter by mode, mark favorites, or swipe to delete. Deleting shows an Undo button for a few seconds.

How do I share a game?

Open a saved game and tap Share. You can send it as PGN, which every major chess site and app can import, as an image of the final position, or as a short GIF.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Face-to-face games, solo games and the board tools work completely offline.

Can I play online?

Not in this version. Duo Chess is made for chess in person, at one phone or at a real board.

Does Duo Chess work with VoiceOver?

Yes. Every square is labeled (for example “e4, white pawn”), moves and turns are announced, and you can move with two taps. Highlights use rings, dots and patterns, not just color.
